How Funding Will Help
Caribou adoptions fund the work of Wilfrid Laurier University in the Northwest Territories. This still-intact ecosystem features taiga boreal forest and tundra habitats, which are home to a range of wildlife including moose, muskoxen, bison, wolves, bears, wolverines, many species of birds and fish, and some of the last free-ranging herds of migratory barren-ground caribou. Learning about these animals, how they interact, and how they respond to disturbances in their food webs is a crucial step in determining how to protect them.

More About the Project

Using cameras and recording equipment, Claudia is examining the behaviors of and relationships between animals in the Northwest Territories, and how these animals respond to disturbances in their food webs. Findings will be shared with the local Indigenous communities to inform future stewardships plans.
